The international thriller “Gletschergrab” celebrates its free TV premiere in the ZDF Monday cinema.

On December 16th, ZDF will present “Gletschergrab”, a German-Icelandic conspiracy thriller, late in the evening at 10:20 p.m. The film by director Óskar Thór Axelsson is based on the novel of the same name by best-selling author Arnaldur Indriðason, who is also responsible for the screenplay.

The roles include Vivian Ólafsdóttir (“Cop Secret”), Jack Fox (“Riviera”), Iain Glen (“Game Of Thrones”), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (“Trapped”) and Wotan Wilke Möhring (“Tatort”) . The ensemble also includes Adesuwa Oni, Annette Badland, Atli Óskar Fjalarsson, Kathleen Renish and Julia Schmitt.

Dangerous fund

The focus of “Glacier Grave” is bank employee Kristín Jóhannesdóttir (Ólafsdóttir), who receives a video clip with her brother Elías (Atli Óskar Fjalarsson). He and two other young people seem to have discovered a plane wreck that was uncovered by the melting of a glacier.

Shortly afterwards, Ellás disappeared without a trace and Kristín has to deal with the killer Simon (Möhring). The man breaks into her apartment and tries to kill her. But the young woman manages to escape. She seeks protection from her ex-boyfriend, the British history lecturer Steve (Fox). He not only shows great interest in her, but also in the plane from the video. It is a lost German machine from the Second World War.

Apparently it was carrying a coveted cargo: As Kristín and Steve found out, the CIA had organized several expeditions to the glacier in the past. The search for the plane was unsuccessful, but there were always mysterious deaths in the ice. Did Elías and his friends put themselves in mortal danger with the find?

Killer in the neck

Simon continues to hunt Kristín and Steve, who find an ally in farmer Einar (Ólafsson). He practically knows how to use a firearm and a snowmobile. With Simon's boss William Carr (Ian Glen), there is already an additional opponent waiting who has no scruples. The villain leads the rescue operation at the glacier and ultimately uses Elías as a bargaining chip. This is how he will get to the find from the wreck.

“Glacier Tomb” (original title: “Napóleonsskjölin”) was filmed in Iceland in spring 2022. In addition to Splendid Entertainment and Sagafilm, the German media company MMC Fiction and ZDF were also involved in the production. A sequel is already in development.
