New format: Playlists by authors

As part of the cooperation, authors will be invited twice a year to bring their very personal musical playlists. These are played with and in front of the audience, music, literature and writing are discussed: Aren't there also famous book titles that would have been better if they had been a song? And what do “The Brothers Karamazov” or “The Bell Jar” sound like? – Iron Maiden or Portishead?

“For me, music and literature have always been closely linked. “Even as a child, I remember having a cassette for every book that played in my Walkman until I finished the book,” says Gregor Praml, head of the novel factory. “To this day, certain songs are associated with a text/story. I also love the live talk between people; the format 'The LOKAL Listener' has given me the opportunity to conduct it myself with musicians for years. Now the writers are joining in with 'My Playlist' – how wonderful!” Hauke Hückstädt, Head of the Literaturhaus Frankfurt am Mainshares this enthusiasm: “What also brings our institutions together is the curiosity about what happens when we talk to authors about things that don't seem strange to their work and work, but are nevertheless present. Also music.” Elif Shafak revealed that she gets in the mood for writing with a wide variety of forms of death metal. Others, like Maren Kames or Jan Wilm, include playlists with their books. “That’s what it could always be about in the most entertaining way: the background playlist. Listen to music together and talk about it. A lot of entertainment show, a little bit of trash and some style knowledge.”
