Man dies in shooting on Detroit's west side

A man died in a drive-by shooting on Detroit's west side early Monday, police said.

The circumstances are still a mystery, with no description of the shooter or possible motive available.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. in the 15700 block of Patton Street, Officer Justin Hearn, a spokesman for the city police department, told The Detroit News.

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Hearn did not confirm any further information about the shooting.

Another drive-by shooting in November on Mayfield Street in east Detroit left one man dead and two others hospitalized, police said.

Also last month, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged four people in connection with a drive-by shooting at a party in the 6300 block of Devereaux. Two teenagers died.

In May, 20-year-old Frederick Coleman died in his car in Melvindale when gunmen allegedly stopped at the intersection of West Outer Drive and Seaway Drive and shot him before fleeing. Three men have been charged in connection with the shooting.
