The popular western saga “Yellowstone” ended Sunday night with a theme of love, even if it was expressed in different ways.

The popular series, created by Taylor Sheridan, ended with the Dutton family ruling everything.

In an earlier episode, the family's patriarch, John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, was murdered. This storyline rounded out Costner's time on the series after the actor announced in June that he would not be returning. Dutton was killed in a plot involving Sarah Atwood (played by Dawn Olivieri), who is romantically involved with his son Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

In the finale, another Dutton son, Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes), fulfills his father's dream of preserving his massive ranch by selling it to the native people of the Broken Rock Reservation.

Kayce Dutton tells their chief, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), that he is selling it to them for the same price his family paid for it more than a century ago, $1.25 per acre.

The couple cut themselves and take a blood oath, promising that the tribe will allow the Dutton family to keep East Camp and never develop or sell the rest of the land.

“We’re brothers now,” Rainwater tells the younger Dutton. “For each other and for the country.”

Meanwhile, at her father's funeral, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) vows to avenge his death and sets out to find her adopted brother Jamie, who was involved. Her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), races to the scene in time to save her when her brother attacks her upon learning the ranch is gone.

The siblings are locked in a deadly fight when Wheeler bursts onto the scene.

“Do you know what will become of you?” Jamie Dutton tells his sister as he has her in a chokehold. “Another secret from this family.”

But before Wheeler can kill Jamie, Beth stabs him in the heart. The couple disposes of the body and tells police that Beth came to his house when he failed to show up at her father's funeral and he knocked her unconscious before disappearing.

Romantic love comes full circle when cowboy Ryan (Ian Bohen) reunites with country star Abby (played by real-life country sensation Lainey Wilson) and agrees to go on tour with her.

The show ends with Beth and Rip at their new property, potentially setting up another Yellowstone spin-off.

The current spin-offs are the prequel series “1883” with country legends Tim McGraw and his wife Faith Hill and “1923” with film stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

New spin-offs, including “The Madison,” starring actress Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as “1944” and “6666,” have been announced as coming soon.
