March 10, 1989: Air Ontario Flight 1263 stopped at a small airport in northern Canada to refuel. Immediately after refueling, the machine should get back into the air. The takeoff is successful, but the jet misses the trees at the end of the runway by just centimeters. Shortly afterwards, the machine begins to vibrate uncontrollably, loses altitude dramatically and crashes into the forest: 24 people die. The investigation into the incident shows that icy wings lead to the crash – but de-icing was not mandatory.
