Real cleaning disaster: Many dishwashing detergents fail Stiftung Warentest & ÖKO-TEST

Stiftung Warentest

The test of 2022

For issue 06/2022, Stiftung Warentest tested classic dishwashing liquids and dishwashing liquid concentrates. The result: The classic remedy can hardly keep up with the concentrates. A product, the Edeka Gut & Günstig Classic with a fresh apple scent, fails with the rating “poor”.

  • Aldi Alio Ultra Classic 5 in 1 – grade 1.8

The test from 2018

In September 2018, Stiftung Warentest tested a total of 26 different brands of dishwashing liquid, including organic products. The testers are disappointed with the majority of the products. The ingredients make you shake your head – especially because of the critical methylisothiazolinone*. But the testers are not only critical of the ingredients; the cleaning performance of many tested detergents is also poor. Organic products in particular perform “poorly”.

Losers include, but are not limited to:

  • Ecover Hand dishwashing liquid
  • frog Handwashing lotion
  • frog Dishwashing liquid

The test winner of the dishwashing liquid test is a branded product: this Pril Strength Gel Ultra Plus.

ECO TEST

Only one grade was “good”, seven products failed, according to the test results from the ÖKO-TEST magazine (issue 06/2018). The experts put 21 handwashing detergents through their paces. The result is not rosy here either: the majority receive the mediocre grade of “satisfactory” or “sufficient”. Seven dishwashing detergents failed due to critical ingredients, including a product from Palmolive** and the Fit Original Highest Dishwashing Power.

The only dishwashing liquid that is convincing is the Fairy Ultra Plus concentrate Villarriba Edition Original.

*A notice: According to Stiftung Warentest, many manufacturers now only have small or no amounts of methylisothiazolinone in their dishwashing liquids.

**A notice: According to the manufacturer, Palmolive dishwashing liquid no longer contains any gasoline-containing ingredients.
