What is the story
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new initiative to reward exceptional performances in domestic cricket.
This move, confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, aims to identify and motivate talent at the grassroots level.
The board hopes that these financial rewards will boost morale and inspire players to excel in national tournaments.
Rewards system for all domestic cricket tournaments
The reward system will cover all domestic cricket tournaments, including women's and junior tournaments.
“We are introducing Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament prize money in all women's and junior cricket tournaments as part of our national cricket programme,” Shah explained.
He added that there will also be cash prizes for the best player in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali senior men's tournaments.
The BCCI initiative coincides with the upcoming domestic cricket season
The announcement of the reward system comes just before the start of the domestic cricket season in September.
The season begins with the Duleep Trophy, followed by the Irani Cup in October.
The prestigious Ranji Trophy begins on October 11, while the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played in November and December respectively.
BCCI’s commitment to promoting national cricket
The introduction of cash rewards is an important step by the BCCI to promote domestic cricket.
The aim is to offer young and up-and-coming talents not only a platform, but also a concrete reward for their achievements.
This initiative underlines the Board’s commitment to promoting and celebrating cricketing talent at all levels.
This move is intended to motivate players to improve their game and thus further enrich India's domestic cricket scene.
