On a Monday, three people were killed and others injured Shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, officials said.
The suspected shooter was among the three dead, authorities said. According to authorities, six people were injured in the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
Around 11 a.m., officers responded to the school at 4901 East Buckeye Road
What do we know about the suspected shooter?
The suspected shooter was among three people killed at the school. Officers found the teenage shooting suspect dead at the scene, Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes said.
“They found the person they believe was responsible who was on the ground and deceased,” the chief said.
The suspected shooter was a teenage student at the school, police said. Barnes said he would not yet reveal the age, gender or other identifying information about the suspected shooter. He said the suspected shooter's motivation was not yet known.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was working on an “urgent lead” to the firearm the gunman used Monday.
What do we know about the school shooting victims?
In addition to the suspected shooter, two people were killed and six were injured, officials said. Police have not yet publicly identified the victims. The names will not be released until officials speak with family members who lost loved ones in Monday's shooting.
Injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening, authorities said.
Barnes initially declined to say whether the victims were students or teachers, but released more information during a news conference Monday afternoon. The two victims killed in the shooting were a teacher and a teenager, Barnes said. All injured victims were students. Two of the six wounded were in critical condition on Monday afternoon and their injuries were considered life-threatening.
“I'm a little upset now, so close to Christmas,” said Barnes. “Every child, every person in this building is a victim and will forever be a victim. Trauma like that doesn’t just go away.”
SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – Madison said it admitted patients after the shooting. UW Health also said it was receiving patients from the shooting.
What do we know about Abundant Life Christian School?
According to the school website, Abundant Life Christian School is a private school founded in 1978. It is a K-12 school with approximately 390 students.
“Prayers requested! An active shooter incident occurred at ALCS today,” the school posted on Facebook.
The school describes itself as a “private, non-profit, non-denominational K-12 institution founded for the purpose of developing disciples of Jesus Christ through an excellent, comprehensive, biblically integrated educational program that is rigorous in content, context and practice is Christian.”
During a news conference Monday, Barnes was asked about metal detectors at school.
“I'm not aware that the school had metal detectors, and schools aren't supposed to have metal detectors. It’s a safe space,” Barnes said.
What gun laws apply in Wisconsin?
The Giffords Law Center, which reviews gun laws, gave Wisconsin a grade of “C” on its annual grade list.
According to the center, “the state is still missing a number of important measures that would go a long way toward reducing gun violence.”
In Wisconsin, possessing a firearm under the age of 18 is a misdemeanor, while selling, renting, or transferring a firearm to a person under 18 is a felony. It is also a state crime to allow a child under 14 to be near a loaded firearm.
Bringing a loaded gun to school is also a crime.

Monday's shooting came just days after the victims of the Dec. 14, 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting were remembered.
