Volleyball is back. The NCAA season begins with a matchup between two of the nation's best teams – Nebraska and Kentucky. The nation's No. 2 and No. 9 teams begin the year at the AVCA First-Serve Showcase in Louisville.
The championship programs have a long history, although it has almost always gone the Huskers' way. They have beaten the Wildcats 11 times in 13 meetings, including 10 straight wins.
After losing the national championship last year, Nebraska will be looking to put this season behind them quickly, and the Huskers will likely be able to do so with the return of their core lineup and Minnesota's Taylor Landfair, the 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year.
But the Wildcats are not to be trifled with. AVCA All-American Emma Grome is trying to lead her team back to the national title after winning it all during the COVID-delayed 2021 spring season. The Wildcats have not advanced past the regional semifinals since then. With Eleanor Beavin and SEC Freshman of the Year Brooklyn DeLeye back, this is the year to make the push.
