The mobile phone company Telefónica (O2) has announced a cooperation with Epic Games, the game publisher behind Fortnite and Co. Epic Games made headlines a while ago when it removed the popular game Fortnite from the Apple Appstore and Google Play Store. From now on, the Epic Store offers an alternative to Google's Play Store on Android. This store can now be easily installed on O2 smartphones.
O2 cooperates with Epic Games
The newly announced cooperation between the two companies involves pre-installing the Epic Store on all compatible Android smartphones sold by O2. However, as a company spokesperson emphasized to us, this installation is not automatic. When setting up the smartphone, customers can choose whether or not to install the Epic Store on their smartphone. If you decide to do this, you can also install apps from the Epic Store in addition to the Google Play Store. Some Fortnite and other games from the publisher. In the future, Epic would also like to sell apps and games from other developers in its store.
The change applies to all new smartphones sold by Telefónica (O2) in Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Mexico and Spanish-speaking Latin America. Existing devices will probably not be offered the app.
Install or delete Epic Store
The pre-installed Epic Store will definitely be practical for some users. Apps like Fortnite can be installed with just a few clicks and Epic may offer exciting deals in its store in the future. The app on the PC is known for giving away one or two otherwise paid games for free every week. This week there is a Lord of the Rings game available for free.
But not everyone wants the App Store on their new device. Because exclusive deals and numerous controversial statements from the CEO haven't exactly made themselves popular in recent years. Epic is also 48 percent owned by the Chinese company Tencent. However, Epic denies sharing user data with China.
If you have decided on the app when setting it up, you can remove it from your device at any time. To do this, you have to press and hold on the app and then select “uninstall”. If you reset the smartphone to factory settings, you will be offered the app again.
