Gundula Schwinghammer – University of Innsbruck

…is a bit like Indiana Jones.

When she arrived in Leipzig, Gundula Schwinghammer, a native of Bavaria, couldn't like the city. She had just graduated from high school and wanted to start her studies, but actually not that far from her home village, where she had spent “a well-protected and happy childhood”. She quickly realized that she had to go back to the mountains. And so she ended up in Innsbruck. Tyrol was less than 100 kilometers from their home. “In terms of landscape, it is very similar to Upper Bavaria, as well as in terms of dialect and mentality,” says Schwinghammer. Here she also decided to stop studying medicine. She definitely wanted to study – but just something that interested her. You remember that as a student she was always fascinated by ancient cultures, by ancient Persians, Assyrians, and Mesopotamia, and she also thought “a bit of Indiana Jones,” Gundula Schwinghammer admits today with a laugh. She also moved to the Institute for Classical Archeology and began studying archeology. “An absolutely right decision,” says the Bavarian today.

The entire interview with Ms. Schwinghammer can be found in the interviews “Together we are university,” which were created as part of an anniversary project in collaboration with the public relations office and the target group.
