Nvidia app in the background: “Game filter and photo mode” option can cost FPS

The Nvidia app (first impression) has been available since November as a solution for the old Control Center in the GeForce driver and GeForce Experience (GFE) in a software in final version 1.0; the last driver already includes it instead of GFE. However, installation may cost performance. But there is an antidote.

The Nvidia app can cost FPS

X user noticed that some games run slower than before when the Nvidia app and not GeForce Experience is running in the background Sebastian Castellanos noticed Castellanos and Tom's Hardware We then backed up this discovery with tangible measurements: performance drops by a double-digit percentage in some places.

But in the course of the analyzes we also noticed that the problem can be solved if the option “Game filters and photo mode“ is deactivated.

Nvidia has confirmed the behavior

Nvidia has now confirmed this behavior and recommends turning off the option as a quick countermeasure.

We are aware of and are actively investigating a reported performance issue related to game filters. You can disable game filters from the NVIDIA app Settings > Features > Overlay > Game Filters and Photo Mode and then restart your game.

It should therefore only be a matter of time before a new version of the app or a new driver is released that no longer has this problem.
