A week after the release of iOS 18.2, Apple released the first developer beta for iOS 18.3.

The previous update brought some new features to the iPhone, with the main focus being “Apple Intelligence”. This is currently of no interest to users in Germany, but the AI functions should also be usable in the EU from April.

Robot vacuum cleaners land in the Apple Home

In contrast, the innovations in the first test version of iOS 18.3 are very clear. The update primarily addressed cosmetic changes. However, Apple is also likely to be working on general improvements under the hood.

There is a welcome feature, at least for owners of vacuum robots. These can now finally be integrated into Apple Home, provided the devices support it.

It is also quite possible that the manufacturer will add a few more features with the upcoming updates. The currently known changes are actually too small for a major iOS update.

This is new in iOS 18.3 Developer Beta 1 (via RedmondPie):

  • Some iPhone models are receiving new modem firmware with iOS 18.3 Beta 1.
  • Apple's Home app now supports the integration of robot vacuum cleaners.
  • The “Image Playground” app has received a slightly different icon. The software is not yet available in the EU due to a lack of Apple Intelligence.
  • “Type to Siri” has also received a new app icon. This app cannot yet be used in the EU.
  • The camera control icon now also supports dark mode.

The public beta could follow in January

It is currently unknown when the first public beta will be released. Apple usually rolls this out together with the second test version. Since there are still a few holidays coming up with Christmas and New Year, this could happen in the first or second week of January.
