This is bitter for Bundesliga club Mainz 05: Rheinhessen will have to do without their best goalscorer until further notice.

FSV Mainz 05 will have to be without national striker Jonathan Burkardt for several weeks. The 24-year-old suffered a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh in the game against FC Bayern Munich. According to the Bundesliga club, this was the result of previous investigations.

When the ten-time goalscorer will return to team training will depend on the healing process. Burkardt had to leave the pitch with a bandaged thigh after just fifteen minutes of the 2-1 win against the German record champions on Saturday.

The 2021 U21 European champion is currently in great form and has played a major role in Mainz being in seventh place in the table. On Saturday (3:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) the Rheinhessen will play at Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the year.
