Update for FritzSmart Gateway, new functions for the FritzBox

AVM continues to work on functions and improvements for the FritzSmart Gateway and for the FritzBox 7682. Both devices are now receiving the FritzOS 8.01 update and with it a long list of changes.

Same version, different content

Owners of a FritzSmart Gateway had already received a major function update a few days ago, which, among other things, expanded the compatibility list for smart home applications. AVM has now pushed out a maintenance update to fix minor problems and introduce improvements.

AVM has improved the stability of the Zigbee wireless connection and fixed technical problems. A frequently cited problem was a mixed up sorting order of smart home devices and display errors in the “change notice” push service.

Things look completely different with the update for the FritzBox 7682. AVM also delivers version 8.01 for this, but the router recently had FritzOS 7.63 installed. The new firmware now brings both new functions and initial bug fixes. We have summarized the innovations from the changelog at the end of this article.

Start update

The FritzBox can also be updated online via the user interface. To do this, start the user interface in the Internet browser under “fritz.box” and use the assistant to search for an update. There you will find information about the new version under “Update” or “Update firmware”. You confirm the download and the installation then runs automatically.

Since the FritzSmart Gateway is an additional device, the update also runs as an online update via the connected Fritz network. To do this, go to “fritz.smartgateway” in the web browser of your choice and log in again if necessary. There you look for the item “Assistant” and then select “Update” or “Update firmware”. When connected, the latest version is automatically loaded and installed.
