Fitness trends 2025: These sports are not only fun, but also effective.
The year is coming to an end and New Year's Eve is just around the corner. True to the motto “New year, new you,” doing more exercise in the new year is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions. But in reality, motivation for sport decreases as the year progresses. This could be due to the monotony of your training – always going to the same gym and doing the same exercises over and over again can quickly become boring. Especially if we don't see any results after a short time – a breath of fresh air can't hurt to stay on the ball. So that the implementation really works this time, we're already looking at the fitness trends for 2025 – because they promise variety. Maybe there is something for you too?
Fitness trends 2025: These sports are popular now
#1 Pilates
Pilates has been becoming increasingly popular for several years, but this year the sport has definitely reached a new peak. The former niche sport has developed into the absolute trend sport of 2024 not only thanks to Shirin David's song, but also because it is ideal for slowly starting a sports routine. Due to the different formats, there is something for every ability and every level, regardless of whether you are a beginner, advanced or professional. Popular formats include Pilates Flow, the Pilates Reformer or Pilates with sliders. According to the 2024 trend report from the sports provider ClassPass, Pilates in Germany recorded a growth rate of an impressive 269 percent this year. This is also evident on social media, Instagram and TikTok are full of Pilates videos – so we are sure: we will see a lot more of the trendy sport in 2025!
If you are interested, you can either go to Studio Lagree, Beyond BLN, Shapesty or Framework. You can also try out all variations of Pilates in one of the three Hale. Now studios in Berlin. Classic Pilates courses are available at the Rohschliff Studio in Cologne or at the House of Healing in Berlin. And if you can't decide between yoga and Pilates, Les Mills' recently launched “Shapes” training format could be just the thing for you.
#2 Stretching
An underrated classic in training is stretching. Although it is actually clear how important stretching is as a supplement to the sports program, stretching is usually left behind in the training plan. After the workout you don't have enough time or you don't feel like it anymore – the list of excuses is long. But that's expected to change in 2025: With 261 percent growth in the ClassPass Trend Report, stretching was already the silent star among sports in 2024, and the trend will continue to grow next year. After all, stretching has a whole range of benefits: mobility is improved, people can prevent injuries, sleep can be improved and the cardiovascular system is supported. Stretching is also a great alternative to exercise and rest days if you still want to get some exercise.
#3 Yoga
This point doesn't come as a surprise, but the ClassPass trend report shows that yoga is and remains an absolute favorite among fitness trends. After all, Yoga 2024 was able to win a considerable number of new fans with an increase of 131 percent. The combination of movement and breathing exercises is particularly appreciated in order to escape the stress of everyday life and find some peace and relaxation. Because even if it gets really strenuous depending on the yoga style and level of the course, there is still a relaxing meditation at the end. So there is something for everyone's taste!
#4 Strength training
According to ClassPass, classic strength training in the gym also topped the list of the most popular sports in Germany in 2024, with an increase of 131 percent. Strength training improves posture, can increase bone density and ensures an active metabolism. Thanks to the many options such as strength training with weights, resistance bands or your own body weight, there are a wide variety of options for all fitness levels. Studios like Barry's, the newly opened Eternity Health Club in Munich and Bootcamp Baby create a perfect environment for intensive training.
#5 Barre and dancing
Just like in 2024, barre will remain a trend sport in 2025. This sports category draws on elements from Pilates, yoga and dance and is particularly characterized by the fact that it is carried out on barre bars. A corresponding offer is offered at GlowBarre in the Belgian Quarter in Cologne or at Kale & Cake in Munich.
Dancing will generally become a popular trend sport in 2025. In addition to barre workouts, ballet, hip-hop and Zumba will be back in fashion in 2024. We'll see a lot more of this next year, because in addition to a full-body workout, endurance and a sense of rhythm are also trained – combined with a huge amount of fun.
