Into the platform Google Home Thanks to high compatibility, you can integrate many smart products and, depending on your own infrastructure, control large parts of the smart home. However, for a long time the only option was to give all invited users full access, which in some cases is not a good idea. A permission system with different levels is now being tested in beta.
A smart home is a great thing, but it can only fulfill its purpose if all residents or, depending on the ratio and length of visit, also the guests have access to the functions. Because full access is not a good idea for children, guests or users with little technical knowledge, Google Home is now testing a permissions system. In the beta, individual users can now be divided into “admin” or “member”. The first group has full access with all setting options, while the second group can only use but not configure.
There are two further divisions for members that can be defined and can largely replace an extensive authorization system. You can specify whether members should have access to the settings and you can choose whether members should have access to activities, including past events. If these two variants are not set, users with member status can only use normal actions.
Such a system is particularly important in the smart home and it is difficult to understand why Google Home hesitated for so long before introducing it and is only now gradually releasing it. The new system is currently being tested in beta and it will probably take some time before it is released for all users or administrators.
