| Company succession is one of the central challenges for the economy in North Rhine-Westphalia. The current successor report from the IHK NRW shows that around 26,000 owner-managed companies in the Düsseldorf region alone are facing a generational change in the next ten years. |
In the IHK district, the succession plan affects 16,400 companies in Düsseldorf and 9,600 in the Mettmann district. The situation is particularly important for 6,300 companies with 121,000 employees subject to social security contributions (91,000 in Düsseldorf, 30,000 in the Mettmann district), which offer attractive conditions for successful succession due to their economic stability.
The current company survey with almost 1,800 participants from all over North Rhine-Westphalia illustrates the difficulties: 80% of those surveyed find the search for suitable successors to be a major challenge. Factors such as bureaucratic obstacles, the shortage of skilled workers and rising energy costs further exacerbate the situation.
