Apple recently distributed the new iOS 18.2 update. Now, a week later, the company has also released the first version of the new iOS 18.3 update in a developer beta. The last update primarily introduced functions for the new artificial intelligence Apple Intelligence. With iOS 18.3, however, you can expect rather small changes.
Initially only developer testers will receive the new beta version. This is not yet completely finished and may still contain some errors. Therefore, it makes sense to wait for the next public beta for the broader public. This is more sophisticated and the likelihood of problems with the software is significantly lower. Typically, the public beta is released with the second developer test version. The assumption here is the first or second week of January 2025. New iOS 18.3 features
As mentioned, the iOS 18.3 update focuses on minor changes and improvements. Many expected additional functions for Apple Intelligence – but these have not materialized. It is now assumed that such features will either come with the second iOS 18.3 beta or will only be released with iOS 18.4. In Germany this doesn't actually make any difference, because the AI will only be available here from April 2025.
As already suspected in speculation, Apple has expanded the Home app with which you can control your smart home with the update. In the future, you will also be able to integrate your robot vacuum cleaner into the app. The other innovations of iOS 18.3, on the other hand, are minimal.
You can edit the control center individually in iOS 18. You will find many different controls in edit mode. Among other things, there is a button to write with Siri. This gets a new look with iOS 18.3. The app icon for the AI feature Image Playground also receives small changes. In addition, the camera icon in the settings now supports dark mode.
Another change that most end users probably won't notice is the new firmware for the cellular modem. These could ensure that connections become more stable and faster. However, Apple has not provided precise information about the improvements. Overall, iOS 18.3 aims to fix many errors in order to improve the stability and security of the software.

In addition to iOS 18.3, Apple also released the new macOS 15.3 beta, introducing “Genmojis” for the Mac. This is another Apple Intelligence feature that allows you to create your own emojis.
