Dennis Schröder will play with NBA star Stephen Curry in the future. After arriving at the Warriors, the German world champion talks about his expectations. And reveals a sweet anecdote with his son.

After the surprising move to the Golden State Warriors, Germany's NBA professional Dennis Schröder hopes to stay longer with his new team around superstar Stephen Curry. “I will be in a place where I am truly valued, where people know my worth,” said the basketball world champion at his introduction in San Francisco.

When you noticed what he contributed to success every day and his family felt comfortable, Schröder added: “If everything works out like this, then of course I will end my career here.” But of course he also knows the reality in the NBA and the many changes and deals between clubs – his contract only runs until the end of the season. “I'm going to approach it very professionally,” he said. “It would be nice to stay in one place longer. But you have to be realistic.”

Golden State is Schröder's eighth NBA team in twelve years – the fourth time he has had to change within one season.

The 31-year-old from Braunschweig was traded to the Warriors by the Brooklyn Nets this week. Schröder admitted that the news initially shocked him because he had just settled in with his family in New York – he had only joined the Nets at the beginning of the year. “I was in a bad mood,” said Schröder – until his five-year-old son Dennis Jr. said: “We're lucky, at least it's a good team now.”

Unlike the Nets, coach Steve Kerr's Warriors are a clear playoff candidate and want to play for the championship again with alternative stars Curry (36) and Draymond Green (34).

Schröder announced that instead of his usual jersey number 17, the Warriors would wear 71. The club no longer assigns the number 17. “I turned it around.” He is looking forward to the future alongside Olympic champion Curry. “I’m thrilled to be here and to be part of something special,” said the international.

By the way, I have always loved San Francisco. It reminds him of cities in Europe, among other things because of the world-famous tram. “And there is a shop here with German sweets,” revealed Schröder, who is expected to make his debut on Thursday (local time) in the away game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
