Police in Atlantic City, New Jersey, have arrested a Galloway man in Egg Harbor City on suspicion of robbery.
It all started when Atlantic City police received information that a wanted man was on a train… and they found a loaded gun on him.
According to Atlantic City Police:
On August 26, 2024, Manuel Alicea was arrested by members of the Egg Harbor City Police Department on a New Jersey Transit train. Alicea was wanted for his involvement in a robbery in Atlantic City.
On August 14, Alicea was charged after pistol-whipping and injuring a man in the 1100 block of Arctic Avenue. After pistol-whipping the victim, Alicea stole his belongings and attempted to steal his bicycle. The victim was treated at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division.
Today, Detective Nicholas Berardis received information that Alicea was with a woman at the Atlantic City train station. Patrol officers responded and searched the station and a waiting train. Officers learned that another train had recently departed for Absecon.
The train had already left Absecon station before police arrived.
The train arrived in Egg Harbor City, where officers detained the train during the search. Police Chief Marcella Alywin, Lt. Zach Perna, and Officers Darryl Fonville and Brian McKenna found and arrested Alicea, who was in possession of a loaded handgun.
The New Jersey Transit Police and the Absecon Police Department assisted in the search for Alicea.
“This is a great example of the strong relationships that law enforcement has built in Atlantic County,” said Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos. “An armed, violent offender was arrested thanks to the coordination and teamwork of not only the law enforcement officers from the agencies involved, but also the public safety telecommunicators in the respective cities who worked hand-in-hand to provide the necessary information,” Sarkos said.
