Shortly before the most important days before Christmas, Amazon employees are threatening to go on strike. The union believed that the online giant was rejecting any talks about better working conditions and higher wages.
The US online retailer Amazon is threatened with a massive strike in the crucial days before Christmas. Thousands of Amazon workers in the US plan to stop work on Thursday at 6 a.m. local time, shortly before the busiest days of the year, the Teamsters union announced. Locations affected include New York City, Skokie (Illinois), Atlanta, San Francisco and Southern California.
Union negotiators had said the e-commerce giant was refusing to negotiate with them over better wages and working conditions. According to its own information, the union represents around 10,000 employees in ten Amazon warehouses in the USA. A strike could hit Amazon hard during the Christmas season.
With over 700,000 workers in around 1,000 warehouses scattered across the US, a strike is unlikely to cripple Amazon's operations, but such a work stoppage in the final days before Christmas could cause supply chain problems. (APA/Reuters)
