A major police operation at the vocational college in Kempen has now ended. During a search of the school building, special police forces were unable to identify any threat. The students, who were temporarily gathered in a gymnasium, were now able to go home. If they are still minors, their parents could pick them up.
“It was a very strange situation“
18-year-old Julia Wiegand is training to be a childcare worker at the vocational college. She experienced the operation up close: “Suddenly there was an announcement that we should lock all the doors and then we didn't even know what to do. We closed all the doors and at some point we were supposed to get under the tables and turn off the lights and lower the blinds and then there was peace.“Emergency forces later took her and her classmates to the gym.
