Check out the most popular boy names in New York for 2023. See how they've changed since 1910

According to data from the Social Security Administration, Liam was the most popular name for boys in New York last year, as it will be in 2022.

But Liam's popularity is a relatively new phenomenon. The name first appeared in Social Security baby name records in 1954, when five boys in New York were given the name.

The Social Security Administration does not include in its popularity registers any names that do not appear at least five times.

Liam didn't reach 100 until 1994, when 137 baby Liams were born in New York.

A total of 1,482 Liams were born in New York in 2023. Liam was also the most popular name for boys in the entire United States in 2023.

The agency began compiling its baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The agency collects the data when parents apply for Social Security cards for their children.
