  • Samsung has released new details about the upcoming Samsung operating system One UI 7.0.
  • This includes new software that is supposed to make your Samsung cell phones more secure: the “Personal Data Engine”.
  • In addition, the “Now Bar”, which is already available in the One UI 7.0 beta, should offer significantly more practical options.

The South Korean company Samsung is currently still working on the stable version of One UI 7.0 – the new operating system for the manufacturer's smartphones. You can currently test this via a beta update. Samsung is now giving an outlook on new features that One UI 7.0 will bring with it that are not yet available.

In a blog post in the Samsung Newsroom, the company announced that the Knox security system under One UI 7.0 will be expanded to include the new “Personal Data Engine”. This is intended to protect personal data across devices and apps. Knox should continue to store personalized data under encrypted keys. However, with the “Personal Data Engine”, Samsung will also rely on post-quantum cryptography to effectively prevent future threats such as hacker attacks – accompanying the regularly distributed security updates, one of which Samsung is currently distributing.

New suggestions from the “Now Bar”

The “Now Bar” is a new, pill-shaped info bar on your lock screen in One UI 7.0. It is already available in the first beta of One UI 7.0 and is intended to offer even more options to respond to you and your activities in the stable version of the Samsung operating system. So far, if your Samsung phone is eligible for the beta update, you can display music, sports, timers or voice recordings. However, you must first activate these functions.

In future versions of One UI 7.0, Samsung will give you the ability to integrate more data from your life into the Now Bar. This means that Galaxy AI can quickly communicate with you via the small bar on the lock screen and provide individually tailored suggestions. In the blog post, Samsung gives the example of packing for a trip: The Now Bar in One UI 7 suggests when you should sleep and exercise, recommends useful apps for travel preparation, shows the weather forecast for your destination and suggests suitable playlists.

A real highlight for Samsung cell phones

The new functions of the “Now Bar” would represent a significant expansion for Samsung smartphones. The current beta version is already promising, but a contextual understanding that actively helps instead of “just” showing what is happening would be a big step forward. Samsung does not yet offer a comparable tool. However, it is not clear from the blog post whether the innovations mentioned will be delivered directly with the first stable update to One UI 7.0 or later.

The final version of One UI 7.0 is expected in January 2025 – along with the Galaxy S25 series smartphones. However, you can already take a look at the new operating system through the beta – either directly if your cell phone is eligible for the update and you have registered for it free of charge, or you can check out our summary of the 6 top features of the One UI 7.0 beta -Opinion.
