The 75th Berlin International Film Festival awards Scottish actress Tilda Swinton the Honorary Golden Bear for her life's work. The prize will be awarded at the opening gala at the Berlinale Palast on February 13, 2025.

Tilda is one of our modern film idols and has long been part of the Berlinale family. “We are particularly pleased to be able to present Tilda Swinton with the Honorary Golden Bear,” says Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle.

“The Berlinale is the first film festival I ever attended. That was in 1986 with Derek Jarman's “Caravaggio,” my first film ever. This was my entry into the world in which I have created my life's work so far – the world of international filmmaking – and I have never forgotten what I owe to it. “To be honored in this way by this special festival touches me deeply: it will be a privilege and a pleasure for me to once again celebrate this inspiring place next February, which always enables wonderful and stimulating encounters,” says Tilda Swinton .
The Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton has been closely associated with the Berlin International Film Festival for many years. In 2009 she was President of the International Jury and appeared in 26 films in the festival program, including Caravaggio, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1986, “The Beach” (2000), “Derek” (2008), “Julia” (2008) , “The Garden” (1991) and “Last and First Men” (2020).

Tilda Swinton began her film career in 1985 with Derek Jarman and appeared in all of his films, including “The Last of England” (1987), “War Requiem” (1989), “Edward II” (1991), for which she received international awards Venice Film Festival won Best Actress, as did Wittgenstein (1993) before his death. She gained greater international fame in 1992 with her portrayal of Orlando based on the novel by Virginia Woolf and directed by Sally Potter.
Since then, Tilda Swinton has worked continuously with numerous renowned directors. She appeared in Tony Gilroy's “Michael Clayton” (2007), for which she received the BAFTA and the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Béla Tarr's “The Man From London” (2007) and Jim Jarmusch's “Only Lovers Left” . Alive” (2013) and “The Dead Don't Die” (2019), Luca Guadagnino's “I Am Love” (2009), “A Bigger Splash” (2015) and “Suspiria” (2018), Joanna Hogg's “The Souvenir ” films (2019 and 2021) and “The Eternal Daughter” (2022), and Bong Joon Hos “Snowpiercer” (2013) and “Okja” (2017).
More recently, Tilda Swinton starred in “Asteroid City” (2023) by Wes Anderson, with whom she has worked five times, as well as in George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” (2022), David Fincher’s “The Killer” (2023 ). ), Joshua Oppenheimer's “The End” (2024) and “The Room Next Door” (2024), her second collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar. They recently completed filming The Ballad of a Small Player with Edward Berger for Netflix.
