Speakers remain silent
Just yesterday we reported on a new Safeguard Hold that blocks the 24H2 update for users whose PCs use the Auto-HDR function. The SDR content is automatically converted and is intended to provide a better picture. However, after installing Windows 11 24H2, the feature causes color errors when playing and also leads to crashes. The update has therefore been blocked for the systems of affected users for the time being.
Now there are further difficulties. Users are affected by audio problems when using Dirac Audio. This is a digital sound enhancement technology that improves the clarity and precision of audio playback. However, after updating the operating system, the speakers remain completely silent. This applies to both integrated and Bluetooth boxes and headsets.
As stated on the official Microsoft support website, the devices are not recognized by either first-party or third-party applications. The incompatibility is caused by the software component cridspapo.dll, which is part of the audio processing software.
Wait for the updated driver
In order to protect other users from problems, Microsoft has set up an update block for all systems that use the corresponding software components. Affected devices will not be offered to install Windows 11 version 24H2 through the Windows Update channel until the issue is resolved.
Since Dirac Audio is third-party software, it is the responsibility of manufacturer Dirac to provide a driver update that resolves the compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2. Microsoft cannot therefore provide any information about when a fix will be available. If it is ready, Microsoft will offer it as part of the Windows Update.
Am I affected?
If your system meets the requirements for Windows 11 24H2 and has not received the previous update, you can check whether and which of the currently active twelve Safeguard Holds he or she is affected by. This can be checked under “Settings” > “Windows Update” by clicking on “Check for updates”. If there is a block, the following message is displayed:
The upgrade to Windows 11 is on its way to your device. There is nothing that requires your attention right now. Once the update is ready for your device, it will appear as available on this page.
Below this message there is a link labeled “More information”. This redirects users to a website with the Safeguard Holds that apply to their specific device.
