Many stars quickly become inextricably linked to a brand: from Pietro Lombardi to U2-Bono to DJ Ötzi or Torsten Sträter. But what do they actually look like without them?
/30 What do the stars look like without their trademarks? There are answers here. © IMAGO/Zoonar.com/OLIVER NOWAK
/30 Everyone probably knows Cindy from Marzahn. But who is behind it? © IMAGO/Maximilian Koch
/30 Ilka Bessin is the “mother” of the fictional character and is well known to many with her bourgeois appearance, after all, she appears on talk shows, among other things. © IMAGO/STAR MEDIA
/30 Pop star Sia shines not only with her music, but also with her two-tone wigs and extravagant stage outfits. © Gonzales Photo/Per Lange via www.imago-images.de
/30 But would you also recognize Sia on the street? Her real name: Sia Kate Isobelle Furler. The photo is from 2014. © Armando Gallo/Imago
/30 Sunglasses are always a must for Lenny Kravitz. His hairstyle changes frequently over time. © IMAGO/Photo Image Press
/30 As an actor in “The Hunger Games” he appeared completely different – the photo was taken during a shoot. © IMAGO/Hector Vallenilla, PacificCoastNews.com / Avalon
/30 For the sake of completeness, Sido should not be missing here either. The mask used to be his absolute trademark. The photo is from 2005. © IMAGO / TF-Foto
/30 But the mask has been a thing of the past for many years, and every rap fan (as well as numerous TV viewers) knows what Paul Würdig actually looks like. © IMAGO/Markus Köller
/30 Even on festive occasions, DJ Ötzi wears a hat – like here on the ARD show “The Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights” alongside his daughter Lisa-Marie. © IMAGO/Ervin Monn
November 30th But: He doesn't go through with it completely consistently, there are always public topless appearances by Gerhard Friedle (his real name). © Peter Hartenfelser / Imago
/30 Country singer Tim McGraw is an absolute superstar in the USA – and a committed cowboy hat wearer. © IMAGO/ALEX HICKS JR./SPARTANBURG HERALD-JOURNAL
/30 But Tim McGraw is also often active as an actor, so the hat just doesn't fit. This photo was taken at the premiere of the film “Tomorrowland”, which is called “A World Beyond” in Germany. © Tim McGraw
/30 Comedian Torsten Sträter's hat seems to have literally grown. And the highest thing to be replaced by a hut – he was even named “Hat Wearer of the Year 2024”. © IMAGO
/30 There is actually Torsten Sträter (r.) without a headgear. © Rolf Vennenbernd
/30 Scorpions star Klaus Meine consistently wears a hat. There is a sad secret behind it, as he once told the NOZ. A stage accident! “I came straight from the stage to the hospital. The wound was stitched there. I was pretty badly beaten up. Since then, this beautiful headgear has been my constant companion.” © IMAGO
/30 In this respect, you have to look far back to see him without his hat. The photo was taken at the Savage Amusement World Tour 88-90 at the Hammersmith Odeon. © Rudi Keuntje / Imago
/30 The wig is part of Ballermann singer Ikke Hipgold's stage outfit. © IMAGO/Daniel Scharinger
/30 And here we see the man, whose real name is Matthias Distel, all neatly dressed. © IMAGO/Christoph Hardt
/30 U2 star Bono's sunglasses look cool, but that's not why he wears them. The singer suffers from an eye disease and the glasses are used for protection. © IMAGO/Greg Henkenhaf
/30 Decades ago he could do without this accessory. The photo was taken in 1984. © Allstar / Imago
/30 Would you recognize KISS star Gene Simmons on the street without makeup? © IMAGO/Michelle Pemberton/IndyStar
/30 This is what the rock legend looks like in “normal”. © IMAGO/Billy Bennight
/30 When Udo Lindenberg leaves the house tomorrow, he will wear sunglasses and a hat. © IMAGO/Frederic Kern
/30 Here he takes off his sunglasses. He does do that from time to time. However, a photo without a hat was far more difficult to find. © Jonas Walzberg/dpa
/30 We had an old one from 1978 to offer. © IMAGO/United Archives / Lindinger
/30 A hat belongs to the 80s music legend Boy George. © IMAGO/Bonnie Britain/SOPA Images
/30 In this older photo he's starting to apply a little color. © IMAGO/Bennett Marcus / Avalon
/30 Pietro Lombardi is a big baseball cap fan – you rarely see him without one. But at the same event in 2024 he showed up sometimes with and sometimes without. © IMAGO/Christoph Hardt
/30 Because he had to take off his beloved cap to kick on the soccer field. © IMAGO/Christoph Hardt
They are an integral part of many celebrities: their personal trademarks. These are often headgear, but not only. One or two stars are almost never seen without sunglasses. And wigs are also very popular with some people.
But what do the show stars actually look like without them? This is not an absolute rarity for DJ Ötzi (53). The hat is somehow part of being an Austrian, but every now and then he appears on television without it. Most people should also know what Cindy from Marzahn looks like without all the disguise as Ilka Bessin (53).
For others it gets a little trickier. The comedian Torsten Sträter (58), for example, is almost never seen without his beloved black hat. But at some point – and we show a suitable photo. Along with others like Udo Lindenberg (78), we had to fight deep in the archive for a suitable picture without sunglasses and without a hat. And then there is the one star whose trademark hides a sad secret. Browse through the photos here.
