In November 2024, a very interesting set is set to hit the shelves of local stores. This collection of cards, known as MTG Foundations, is designed to help new players get into our beloved game. While the cards included in the related products will be Standard-legal, this time they will not be affected by the traditional rotation. We already know that some historically powerful cards will be available, such as Llanowar Elves. With the release of MTG Foundations, there is a lot to look forward to.
For players living in Japan, there seems to be additional incentives for purchasing MTG Foundations game boosters. Known as “The Wanderer's Christmas Campaign,” this promotion combines the beauty of the holiday season with the excitement of great packs. Let's take a look at what this promotion has to offer.
MTG Foundations Promo
The way this Japanese promotion works is pretty simple. For every purchase of six MTG Foundations game boosters, the player will receive a chibi character sticker as a reward. There are a variety of different stickers that players can receive. You can find the gallery here.
What's particularly notable is that some of the stickers are special and stand out from the rest. These winning stickers will likely be a coveted commodity, as they can be exchanged at will for a playmat or set of card sleeves illustrated by legendary artist Fuzichoco. Fuzichoco designed the artwork for cards like Farewell (Showcase version) and Spectral Sailor (Jumpstart 2022 variant).

Player reaction and price
Ultimately, this structure seems like a really cool way to encourage players to purchase MTG Foundations booster products. It seems like a lot of players are disappointed that this promo is exclusive to Japan. The artwork on the Christmas-themed playmat shown above is very fun and obviously resonates well with players.
Unfortunately, because the winner's stickers are so exclusive, getting a playmat won't be easy. For reference, a similar playmat featuring The Wanderer and Kaito was displayed alongside The Wanderer's Summerfest campaign. The structure of the Summerfest campaign was almost identical to that of the upcoming Christmas campaign, except that players purchased Bloomburrow boosters instead.
As it turns out, the playmat featuring the Wanderer and Kaito sold on Mercari for 14,000 yen, which is roughly $97. This shows how rare these unique playmats are. With that in mind, it will be cool to see if similar promotions are offered in other parts of the world in the future. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on the awesome Christmas playmat, take good care of it!
