MusicBlog – The Weeknd – New Album and Film

Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, started 2025 with two big projects: His new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” will be released on January 24th via his own label XO, which belongs to Universal. At the same time, he is releasing a film of the same name in cinemas – although the European release date is still open.

With “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, The Weeknd will now make a big start again – and in three ways: as a musician, actor and producer:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the psychological thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is scheduled to open in North America on May 16, 2025. The film is directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for films such as Waves and It Comes At Night.

In addition to The Weeknd himself, stars such as Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan also star, and country singer Gabby Barrett also makes her acting debut. The whole thing is produced by The Weeknd's production company Manic Phase in collaboration with Lionsgate.

For The Weeknd, the project marks a fresh start after his controversial TV series “The Idol.” The series, which stars Lily-Rose Depp, Jennie from Blackpink and Troye Sivan, among others, was canceled in 2023 after just one season. While the reviews were devastating, at least the song “Popular” – a feature with Madonna and Playboi Carti – managed to attract some attention.

The album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is the conclusion of a trilogy that began with “After Hours” (2020) and “Dawn FM” (2022). And it will be a very special release: The Weeknd has announced that it may be his last album under this stage name.

Fans can look forward to well-known songs like “Dancing In The Flames”, “Timeless” with Playboi Carti and “São Paulo” with Anitta – the latter was released just in time for Halloween and immediately caused a stir with an accompanying music video directed by Freeka Tet.

To celebrate the album, The Weeknd is hosting an exclusive live event on January 25, 2025 in Los Angeles.
