The duel between the two newly promoted teams Preußen Münster and SSV Ulm was a battle game, as they like to say. Technically not always at the top level, but carried out with a lot of effort. In the end there was no winner at 0-0. In the table of the 2nd Bundesliga, the Prussians remain just ahead of the SSV over the winter break.
“It was a game of equals“Said Ulm’s coach Thomas Wörle on the Sportschau microphone after the game.”It was competitive, intense, tactical. In my opinion, we were the better, more active team.“
His counterpart Sascha Hildmann also saw an intense game: “Totally fair point. It was a very tough game with lots of duels and long balls. In the end it was a typical 0-0 for me.“
Ulm with early pressing
The Prussians had actually planned to put a lot of pressure on their own stadium from the start in order to prevent their fellow newcomers from the south of the country from developing.
But that didn't happen. Because it was the guests from Ulm who started pressing very early from the first minute and didn't give the Prussians a moment's peace during the build-up. The hosts were visibly surprised and struggled to keep the opposing strikers at bay. Or rather: keeping them away from their own goal.
Ulm was clearly better than Münster in the early stages
Wasn't really successful. Ulm created three great chances in the first 15 minutes: After the Ulm “Spatzen” had unsuccessfully demanded a trade meter in the 4th minute, their striker Semir Telalovic had a mega chance to make it 1-0 in the 7th minute: After a cross, he got the ball free seven meters in front of the goal, but then threw it with his right knee into the arms of Prussia keeper Johannes Schenk.
In the 16th minute, former FC Bayern player Maurice Krattenmacher broke through nicely on the left, but Telalovic couldn't get his ball to the top.
A lot of fighting, more and more tension between Münster and Ulm
Ulm should have been in the lead here – but Münster gradually found its way into the game. Or rather: fought his way into it. The duels now became heated, with every meter of ground on the deep track in Münster being fought vehemently. In terms of football, however, this also means poor food. The fans didn't see anything good in terms of play – it was intense and the game went into the break goalless.
The Prussians had made significant gains in the second half the week before in their surprising 2-1 away win at Hertha. That's what the fans were hoping for – but that didn't happen. At least in terms of play, neither team could be used in any way. It remained just a fighting game. Which almost logically ended up with no goals. And so everything in the table remained the same: Prussia is still two points ahead of the SSV and is “above the line”.
