Nearly a year after the shooting of a 19-year-old woman in Mississauga, Peel police have still not arrested the person responsible, prompting them to renew their appeal for information.
Homicide investigators on Saturday reiterated their call for the public's help in identifying the suspect in the Raneilia Richards murder.
Richards was fatally struck by stray bullets on the morning of Dec. 31, 2023, as she stood with her boyfriend and sister outside an event space near Dixie Road and Eglinton Avenue.
Police later found the vehicle used in the shooting but were unable to locate the driver or passengers.
Investigators have not released any suspect information.
“As the one-year anniversary of the murder of Raneilia Richards approaches, investigators are once again asking for assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” police said in a news release Saturday.
A $100,000 reward has been offered for information that leads investigators to suspects in the murders of Richards and 24-year-old Jackline Gore.
Jackline Keji Gore, 24, is seen in a Peel Regional Police handout photo.
“Both individuals were innocent bystanders and investigators believe they were not the intended targets of the shooting,” police said.
The 24-year-old London resident was celebrating her birthday at a bar near Torbram and Drew streets in the early hours of July 8 when she was shot.
Gore was not the intended target of the suspect, who arrived in the area in a vehicle. Police said the suspect approached a group of men standing at the bar's doors and began shooting at one of them.
The target ran across the parking lot where Gore and her friends were talking. She was hit by a bullet and died.
When they announced the $100,000 reward in July, police said they had found no evidence linking the two shootings, only that the circumstances were similar.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at 905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers anonymous.
