Verdict in the double murder trial in Ingolstadt

It was one of the most sensational proceedings in recent years: the doppelganger murder trial at the Ingolstadt regional court. What is it about? On the night of August 16th to 17th, 2022, the body of a young woman was found in a car in Ingolstadt. The black Mercedes belongs to Shahraban K, who was 23 at the time. When her parents found the car, they initially believed that the dead woman was their daughter. But then there is an incredible twist in the case: the dead woman is not Shahraban K., but Khadidja O. from Eppingen. Shahraban K. becomes a suspect, along with Sheqir K. from Ingolstadt – they are charged with murder that was committed together.

The public prosecutor's office suspects the following motive behind the crime: Shahraban K. is said to have specifically written to young women who looked like her via social media and lured them into meeting them. Khadidja O. addressed this. They also held the defendants that summer day. The two are said to have brutally murdered their victim in a forest: with 56 stab wounds.

Shahraban K. denied the crime and Sheqir K. remained silent until the end. Her defense lawyers demanded an acquittal on the murder charge, while the public prosecutor's office demanded the harshest punishment that the German constitutional state has to offer: life imprisonment with a particularly serious degree of guilt. But how did the court decide in the end? And why did it decide that way?
