The plot takes place decades after the original and shows Maverick (Tom Cruise) as an experienced test pilot who, despite his talent, always offends. He is recalled to the Top Gun Academy to prepare a group of young pilots for an extremely dangerous mission. Things get particularly emotional when one of the students is Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) – the son of his late best friend Goose (Anthony Edwards). As Maverick tries to make the mission a success, he is forced to confront his past and his fears. The film skillfully combines thrills and interpersonal drama and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the last minute.
