Instead of Christmas spirit: ten films for Grinches

Not in the mood for Christmas and especially not for Christmas films? Instead of contemplative stories, these films offer horror, action and humor. All Grinches will find what they are looking for there.

The Grinch (2000)

Anyone who sees themselves as a Grinch and can't do anything with the Christmas season should watch this film. In it, the film's namesake wants to ruin Christmas for the citizens of a fantasy place – but a young resident won't let that happen.

Admittedly, there may be a Christmas happy ending here. However, the way there doesn't make much sense and causes laughs.

The classic The Grinch From the year 2000 is available on Netflix and Prime Video.

Gremlins: Little Monsters (1984)

She actually looks really cute, but the little plush creatures can turn into monsters. For example, if they are fed wet or at the wrong time, they are suddenly not so cute anymore – they are evil. They are therefore only suitable to a limited extent as Christmas presents – but in this film they are given away as such. Chaos is inevitable.

The film is available as a premium subscription from Wow.

The Life of Brian (1979)

This classic tells the story of Brian, who is worshiped as the Messiah – even though he is not. The film by the British comedian group Monty Python takes a different and parody look at the story of Jesus Christ – and thus indirectly at Christmas.

It's about kidnapping and resistance, but of course also about love. Nevertheless, the film is not a tearjerker, but a comedy.

The film is not available on any streaming service, but it can be rented from Prime Video, for example.

Bad Santa Claus (2003)

Parents definitely don't want this Santa Claus as a surprise for their children. Bad Santa lives up to its name and shows Billy Bob Thornton in the role of Santa Claus, who doesn't believe in being a role model or in the Christmas spirit. Instead of giving gifts, he preferred to rob department stores with a friend at Christmas.

The film is not available on any streaming service, but it can be rented from Prime Video, for example.

Jack Frost: The Ice Cold Killer (1997)

This film shows snowmen in a different light: A snowman goes on a bloody murder spree – and cannot be melted even with the use of a hairdryer. The scary horror flick is not to be confused with that Jack Frost from 1997, which shows a family-friendly snowman story.

The scary one Jack Frostversion is available for Amazon Prime and Wow subscribers.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Instead of Santa or snowmen, this classic is about a boy who has scissors on his arms instead of hands. Edward is actually a nice guy, but his neighbors make life difficult for him. After all, he makes snow by cutting ice sculptures. Even if Edward Scissorhands doesn't take place at Christmas, it can still be considered a Christmas film – with its reference to snow and its fairytale character.

The film is available as a subscription on Disney Plus.

Die Hard (1988)

Probably one of the classics when it comes to un-Christmas films: The action film with Bruce Willis in the illegal actions of a police officer who has to take on gangsters who attack a Christmas party on Christmas Eve.

All parts of Stir slowly Disney Plus subscribers can watch on the platform.

Black Christmas (1974)

This is absolute Christmas horror. The film, released in Germany under the title Jessy – The Staircase to Death It was released and combines Christmas sounds with the murder of college students. It is also available as a remake from 2019 – but it shouldn't be able to keep up with the original.

Dirty Office Party (2016)

If you don't want to know anything about the romantic Christmas atmosphere and want to watch a slightly newer film, you're welcome Dirty office party good advice. A Christmas party in the office gets pretty out of hand in this film – but it's actually supposed to help save the employees' jobs.

The film is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Lethal Weapon – Two tough professionals (1987)

Although the film takes place during the Christmas season, there is no sense of a contemplative atmosphere. Instead, it goes in the first one Deadly weapon– Part action-packed – murder, drug trafficking and money laundering are on the program.

This much can be revealed: Mel Gibson as Sergeant Martin Riggs and Danny Glover as Sergeant Roger Murtaugh naturally take on the villains – there's a real bang.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

There's action here too – no wonder, after all, it's the creator of Deadly weapon also involved in this action film.
