Google published statistics on the most searched terms at the end of the year. Here are 5 films that we will be following with excitement in 2024.

5th place: “Dune: Part Two”

Countless fans feared and hoped until the sequel to the fantastic “Dune” film was officially confirmed in October 2021. With “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve brought Paul Atreides’ epic story back to the big screen and was in favor of a story of war. The second part seamlessly follows on from the epic first film adaptation and takes the audience once again to the desert planet Arrakis. The battle for power, resources and survival intensifies as Paul Atreides continues his path as leader of the Fremen and future Emperor.

With an all-star cast, impressive locations and deep themes of betrayal, fate and revolution, the sequel fulfilled the promise of exploring the fascinating world of Dune even more deeply. The film was acclaimed by critics and audiences and grossed over $700 million. It caused a lot of discussion online and built up a stable fan base, making it the fifth most searched film on Google.

4th place: “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”

Legendary director Tim Burton stayed away from the craft of filmmaking for a full 10 years. So long that his fans feared he would never bring anything back to screens around the world. But the break came to the long-awaited end in 2024. With “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” another Burton film was finally released. The sequel to the Warner Brothers classic “Beetlejuice” shined in the director’s style with lots of dark humor and comedy-horror.

The film takes place 36 years after the events of the prequel and revolves around the green-haired creature named Beetlejuice and the Deetz family. To save her daughter, Lydia Deetz calls Beetlejuice from the underworld again and a chaotic adventure full of dark humor and beautiful family moments begins. The star cast of Michael Keaton and especially Jenna Ortega, which conquered the world overnight as “Wednesday”, brought this film to number 4 in Google searches.

3rd place: “Saltburn”

“Saltburn” is a captivating film experience that reveals the colorful and dark side of the elite. Directed by Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”), the film tells the story of a young man who immerses himself in the glamorous world of a wealthy family. With an all-star cast including Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike, “Saltburn” combines suspense, drama and biting social criticism into a fascinating thriller.

Although “Saltburn” first aired in 2023, the thriller kept film fans firmly in its grip in 2024. 1st place: Everything is upside down 2

Disney has done it again: With “Everything is Upside Down 2” they deliver an animated hit that captured the hearts of new viewers. It has been two years since the Andersen family moved to San Francisco and their daughter Riley is now in the middle of puberty. This also brings new feelings into play that don't get along with the old gang at all, which quickly leads to chaos in Riley's head and life.

With a 91% rating on RottenTomatoes, Inside Out 2 may be 7% behind its fantastic predecessor, but that didn't stop fans from celebrating the film for its emotional depth.
