The year 2024 was particularly tough for Princess Kate and Prince William. That's why this year's Christmas card is quite simple.
London – Prince William (42) and Princess Kate (42) have had to go through a lot this year. The Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery at the beginning of 2024. It was discovered that she had cancer. She made the diagnosis public a few weeks later and then withdrew from the public eye to undergo preventative chemotherapy. In the fall she reported back with the good news that she was cancer-free. Now the couple is sharing their annual Christmas card, which contains a hidden message.

Since Prince William and his Kate tied the knot in 2011, they have sent a Christmas card every year. Over the years it became more and more crowded, with son Prince George (11) joining in 2013, daughter Princess Charlotte (9) in 2015 and the couple's third son, Prince Louis (6), in 2018.
The Christmas card from 2024 is once again a photo of the family of five together, albeit one that looks less royal and less formal. The picture was taken during a family shoot, which was also the one used to announce Kate's recovery in September. In the photo, the royals are wearing normal everyday clothes and laughing arm in arm into the camera.

In the post from September, Princess Kate explained that her cancer and the tough year had changed the couple's perspective. “With humility, it also confronts you with your own vulnerabilities in a way you've never considered before, giving you a new perspective on everything,” she explained on Instagram at the time.
This new perspective showed her what is really important in life: love and family. “Above all, this time has reminded William and me to be thoughtful and grateful for the simple but important things in life that so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
This message now seems to include the rather simple Christmas card with which the couple simply wishes the British people a Merry Christmas. No frills, no royal decorations – just the family.
