A 35-year-old woman is charged with the murder of a “beautiful” five-year-old boy who died after they were both found injured at home

A woman has been charged with murder following the death of a five-year-old boy in Essex.

Police officers worked with paramedics to save Lincoln Button's life after he was called to an address on Windstar Drive in South Ockendon on December 15, Essex Police said.

A woman was taken to hospital for treatment and her condition has improved, police added.

She has since been taken into custody and interrogated.

Claire Button, 35, of Windstar Drive, South Ockendon, has been charged with murder, Essex Police said.

She is due to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, who is leading the investigation, said: “This continues to prove to be an extremely complex investigation into the death of a young child.”

“My thoughts and those of the entire investigative team remain with the family of Lincoln Button as we continue to support them at this terrible time.”

“It has taken a great deal of work and dedication from the investigative team to reach this stage of our investigation and I would continue to urge the public to refrain from speculation about the circumstances of this case.”

“Any case as shocking as this will understandably attract attention.”

“But as we approach the point of prosecution, it is time to respect the judicial process and continue to allow Lincoln’s family privacy and space to grieve.”

Lincoln's family paid tribute to him, saying, “Link was a treasured, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and who will be sorely missed every day.”

Lincoln was a year one pupil at Bonnygate Primary School in South Ockendon, part of the Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust.

In a statement, the school described Lincoln as a “cheeky, smiling, happy boy who was lovingly loved by our Bonnygate family.”

It added: “His love of school, laughter and cuddling will be remembered and missed greatly.”

“The school works closely with the authorities and is supported by Thurrock Council’s education team, who support and advise schools on sensitive issues.”

“The school’s priority is to support those within the community who need help to cope with this tragic loss.”
