9-month-old girl dies after being left in hot car by grandmother, officials say

BEEVILLE, Texas (Gray News) – Detectives in Texas are investigating after a nine-month-old girl was left in an overheated car and died Wednesday.

According to the City of Beeville, authorities conducted a preliminary investigation and found that the child's grandmother had left the toddler in a car seat in the back seat of her car.

City officials said the girl was left in the car at 8:30 a.m. that morning and was discovered by her grandmother around 4 p.m.

According to KRIS, when emergency responders arrived, they found the grandmother holding the unresponsive girl in her arms.

Sources told KRIS that the grandmother took care of her granddaughter while the girl's parents were at work.

Police are currently investigating the child's death as an intentional homicide, officials said.

The Beeville Police Department is assisted by the Texas Rangers of the Department of Public Safety.

No charges have been filed yet, but officials said charges are expected.
