Supertri Chicago 2024: Date, start time and how to watch live as Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde compete again – Elite News

This is a preview of the second stage of the 2024 Super Jersey calendar – click on the names to read about the impressive wins of Hayden Wilde and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

The new Supertri season started last weekend in Boston with a bang with the exciting battle between Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde.

As at the Olympic Games on July 31, it was Yee who emerged victorious with the gold medal, but this time Wilde shrugged his shoulders after crossing the finish line rather than simply putting his arm around his shoulder!

This came after Yee's conspicuous, ice-cold celebration with his arms crossed after leaving Wilde and the rest behind with his final kick.

This weekend, there are only seconds left until the second round. Can Jeanne Lehair take two out of two wins in the women's race?

She has recovered brilliantly from the terrible misfortune of her bicycle breakdown in Paris.

Remember, this year's Supertri series will be run in an enduro format – just like when they last won in London last year – so read on to find out everything you need to know ahead of another exciting day of racing.

Additionally, around 9,000 athletes of all ages will be in action over the course of the weekend as this is part of the Chicago Triathlon powered by supertri, the largest short course triathlon in the USA, which has been running for more than 40 years.

Pro-women – who is involved in the race?

The opening race in Boston saw a strong participation of Olympic champions Cassandra Beaugrand and reigning world champion Beth Potterwho won two bronze medals in Paris.

However, this showdown did not happen – Beaugrand played no role in eighth place, while Potter was eliminated and finished outside the top 10.

Instead, it was the British duo Georgia Taylor Brown And Kate Waugh who fought for victory with Jeanne Lehair.

One could easily say that the difference was that Lehair was the only one with the short parachute – more precisely, she was clearly the strongest when it mattered most.

She is thriving in the enduro format and must be one of the leading contenders again.

And there's a funny connection between her and Potter this weekend, as a few years ago Lehair bought a ticket at SLT Munich for the Ed Sheeran concert next door to the venue, which she said was taking place after the race.

It turned out to be the night before, but she went anyway and it didn't hurt as she finished a strong fourth the next day.

However, Potter has gone one step further since last Sunday: he flew back to London to see Taylor Swift at Wembley before heading to Chicago, ready to compete in the Super Triathlon again!

With this in mind, the women’s starting list remains unchanged compared to Boston:

Brownlee Race: Beth Potter, Olivia Mathias, Jess Fullagar and Alice Betto

Crown Race: Cassandre Beaugrand, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Kate Waugh and Barbara De Koning

Podium races: Jeanne Lehair, Fanni Szalai, Vittória Lopes and Léonie Périault

Stars & Stripes: Katie Zaferes, Taylor Spivey, Kirsten Kasper and Cathia Schär

Professional men – who’s coming with us?

It is difficult to get away from the Alex Yee Against Hayden Wilde dynamic.

For all the talk about this celebration, Wilde was particularly dissatisfied with the supposed lack of work of his competitors on the bike in Boston.

This man has a personal best of just under 13:20 in the 5K, but he's finding it very, very difficult to overtake Yee at the moment. Will his tactics change in Chicago?

Dorian Coninx He and his Podium Racing Team are now strengthened with the arrival of his French compatriot Leo BergereLast year’s overall champion of the men’s Super League.

This duo has had many great races together, so keep a close eye on them.

This is also the only change in the lineup, as John Reed leaves for Bergere:

Brownlee Race: Alex Yee, Connor Bentley, Sergio Baxter Cabrera and Hugo Milner

Crown Race: Hayden Wilde, Vincent Luis, Max Stapley and Vetle Bergsvik Thorn

Podium races: Matt Hauser, Dorian Coninx, Kenji Nener and Léo Bergere

Stars & Stripes: Chase McQueen, Seth Rider, Vasco Vilaca and Tim Hellwig

Process and format

As already mentioned, the format in Chicago is Enduro, which means three consecutive triathlons (all in the order of swimming-cycling-running), with no breaks in between.

And not everyone will reach the finish line, because if an athlete is more than 90 seconds behind the leader at any point – as happened to Potter and others in Boston – he or she will be eliminated.

As part of the famous Chicago Triathlon weekend, the downtown venue has become synonymous with the sport.

Large crowds and an impressive backdrop await you at the start and finish at Queens Landing as well as at the bike and run event, which takes place on a narrow loop along the lakeshore.

Each stage consists of 300 m swimming (one lap), 4 km cycling (four laps) and 1.6 km running (two laps).

Supertri Beginner's Guide

In the Supertri, the “normal” rules do not apply and you can earn a small shortcut, the so-called “Short Chute”, during the race if you cross the finish line first at various points.

You can earn a short chute in Chicago as follows:

  1. the first athlete to cross the finish line after swimming in stage 1
  2. the first over the mountain line after the bike on stage 1 (i.e. after T2)
  3. the first over the descent line after the run on stage 1

Short Chutes are won for a team and awarded to an athlete during the race by their team manager. Short Chutes must be completed on the first lap of the race in Leg 3. No team can win more than one Short Chute.
