It's time to break out your lederhosen and dirndls, San Francisco.
The free event, called “Oktoberfest on Front,” will include performances by AlpineSound, Ladyhosen and Pop Rocks, as well as traditional Oktoberfest games including stein holding, beer drinking (but with non-alcoholic beer), axe throwing and some good old pretzel throwing. German beer halls Schroeder's, Harrington's Bar & Grill and Royal Exchange will sell alcoholic beverages outdoors while visitors enjoy the live music along Front Street, which will be closed to cars between California and Sacramento.
Although Schroeder's celebrates Oktoberfest every year, this is the first time the whole block is participating in the party.
“We are excited about expanding this beloved San Francisco tradition and to be the first city in the state to benefit from the new Entertainment Zone legislation, paving the way for a nightlife renaissance in downtown San Francisco and neighborhoods across the city,” Mayor London Breed said in a Thursday press release announcing the upcoming event.
