From 1984 to 1986, Robert Berdella drugged, raped, tortured and murdered six young men, whose deaths he had meticulously planned and recorded in diaries. He photographed his victims and made detailed notes about the injuries he inflicted on them. The precision with which he dismembered corpses earned him the nickname “The Butcher of Kansas City.” Berdella's crimes went unnoticed for years until one of his victims managed to escape and call for help. Berdella pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in August 1988. He died of a heart attack in prison in early October 1992.
