Basement fire makes single-family home in Nagold-Iselshausen uninhabitable for the time being / Photovoltaic system and gun safe are challenges
Calw (ots) –
On Saturday evening, August 31, an attentive passerby noticed smoke coming from behind the windows of a single-family home on Haldenstrasse in Nagold-Iselshausen and alerted fire department head Markus Kehle at around 6:40 p.m. At this point, the smoke had already spread across all floors of the two-story building. Fortunately, no one was in the house. Fire itself had arisen on an external wall in the basement and had already spread across the entire basement and was about to engulf the ground floor,” explained the head of operations. Wearing breathing apparatus, the fire protection forces therefore carried out the internal extinguishing attack from the entrance door towards the basement. At the same time, other firefighters, also wearing breathing apparatus, opened the facade and windows of the basement wall on the rear side from the outside to extinguish the flames, which were noticeable in the contents of a steel weapons cabinet in the basement and initially kept the emergency services at a distance until they had cooled down as Kehle reported on a challenge at the scene. It was also necessary to disconnect the photovoltaic system on the roof from its energy circuit. Around 60 firefighters from Iselshausen, Mindersbach, Nagold and Calw were deployed with eleven vehicles to deal with the basement fire, which made the house uninhabitable for the time being. In addition, the DRK Nagold local association was on site with six forces and the police with two people. There is still no information on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. In addition, the THW was called in to secure the property and sealed off the basement wall. The fire brigade will keep watch until the early hours and use a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature development in the building to prevent embers from rekindling the flames.
