Romy Ertl has the ambition to continue her mother Martina's legacy. And it's no small one! The 17-year-old nun is causing a sensation in New Zealand.
Coronet Peak – Lena Dürr is one of the absolute slalom elite. But after that, things get thin for the female technical specialists in the German Ski Association (DSV). Emma Aicher is still said to have a lot of potential, but the 20-year-old has not been able to put it into practice in the World Cup so far.
Daughter Romy will follow in mother Martina’s footsteps
It's good that another talent is causing a stir on the other side of the world. And the name is something special: Romy Ertl. The 17-year-old is none other than the daughter of German skiing legend Martina Ertl.
Two silver medals at the Olympics, two world championship titles: Romy has big shoes to follow in her mother's footsteps. The 17-year-old has long been considered a great talent. At the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea, Ertl junior won two silver medals and one bronze medal.
Daughter of German ski legend causes a stir on the other side of the world
Romy is currently preparing for the coming winter in New Zealand – and with great success. The 17-year-old is currently in first place in the “Alpine Australia New Zealand Cup 2024” racing series!
Romy took second place in the giant slalom in Coronet Peak (NZL) on Wednesday (28 August). Only Alice Robinson, who has already won three World Cup races, was faster. On Friday she took seventh place in the slalom and took over the overall lead.
Ertl leads racing series after two races
Originally, eight races were planned for the racing series. But the bad weather has put a damper on Ertl & Co.'s plans. The ski elite are also anything but happy with the organizers. A giant slalom has already had to be canceled and the four races in Thredbo, Australia, have already been removed from the program. A slalom is scheduled to take place in New Zealand on Saturday – provided the slopes hold up.
If this is not the case or if Romy can convince again there, Ertl will win the overall ranking. A small success! It is not the first time that the 17-year-olds have prepared for the season in Coronet Peak. Last summer, Ertl was in New Zealand with his mother Martina and spoke of “probably the best experience” of her life. This year, however, could have been surpassed. And who knows: Maybe we will soon see a new Ertl in the World Cup … (kk)
