Cologne | On Friday evening, August 30, 2024, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Rhein-Erft district in Bedburg-Kaster. A man was so seriously injured that he died at the scene of the accident.

It was around 10:10 p.m. when two men were riding a scooter on Neusser Strasse in the direction of the Kaster district. A 54-year-old man was presumably driving the scooter. Witnesses told investigating officers that his driving was unsafe. At the height of Albert-Schweizer-Strasse, there was a collision between the scooter and a car driven by a 39-year-old woman. The presumed pillion passenger on the scooter was so badly injured in the accident that the rescue services were powerless. He died at the scene of the accident.

A blood sample was taken from the 54-year-old to check for alcohol or drug consumption. The man was seriously injured and is being treated in a clinic. A blood sample was also taken from the deceased. The pillion passenger could not be identified immediately. The scooter was confiscated, as were two mobile phones. The traffic accident team from the Düsseldorf police headquarters was deployed.

The investigations are being led by the Cologne public prosecutor's office and the Rhein-Erft district police.
