After the state elections in Saxony and Thuringia, things are getting ugly

Frankfurt (ots) –

The traffic light parties were punished in the state elections. Right-wing extremists dominate the state parliament, a party that is not right-wing extremist but at least partially populist is presumably in government, the party of the incumbent chancellor is happy that it did not fall out of the state parliaments completely – this Sunday was truly a historic day.

The SPD, Greens and FDP are now paying the price for having been preoccupied with themselves in recent months. The transitional coalition is still together pro forma, but each of the partners is already planning the even more important federal election campaign next year.

For the first time since 1945, a far-right party triumphed in a federal state and we have a government that is too weak to fight powerfully against the right and an opposition that prefers to copy a few supposedly successful ideas from them. It is a foretaste of what awaits us in the next year.
