We have not succeeded in reaching people

Berlin/Bonn (ots) –

SPD party leader Saskia Esken believes that her party's aspirations have not been met following the state elections in Thuringia and Saxony. “Such a single-digit result in neither Saxony nor Thuringia does not meet the SPD's aspirations,” said Esken on the Phoenix television channel. The party sees itself as “a people's party and we naturally expect to reach people with our messages and our issues.” Esken admits: “We have not succeeded.”

With regard to the traffic light coalition, Esken says it has also failed to “generate trust among people and, above all, confidence that we can enforce and implement what we say.” She believes the federal government's task is: “That's why we have to advertise even more, explain things, and go out into the world.”
