A razor-sharp tool with which workshops can quickly check all current and future headlight systems, easily adjust them and precisely document measurement results: This is exactly what the new Luminscope® PRO from LET, the professional in optoelectronic measuring instruments, is.
The professional testing and adjustment of vehicle headlights is also about light sources with a lot of energy, and secondly about precision in handling them. And it is precisely the latter that automotive workshops should approach the issue with. This means that you also want to not only test modern LED headlight systems, but also adjust or calibrate them according to the manufacturer's specifications, then you need a headlight adjustment tester – SEP for short – that gives you exactly that: precise results or values generated with as little effort as possible and in a short time. One like the new Luminoskop® PRO SLA 40 from LET Automotive.

And that is what distinguishes the specialist workshop from the testing organization: While Dekra, GTÜ, KÜS and TÜV only check the adjustment of headlights, and an analog SEP is usually sufficient for this, workshops may or must also adjust headlights – that is the “small” and not a subtle difference. Among other things, matrix headlights, for example, require special adjustment routines. Individually controlled “reference LEDs” generate a defined “modeling light”. Its position must be determined in the x and y directions, to the exact minute of an arc. Vehicle manufacturers prescribe possible adjustment values that an analog SEP or the human eye cannot provide. This requires a digital SEP such as the Luminoscope® PRO SLA 40 with highly developed camera technology and evaluation software.
Latest headlight testing and adjustment technology presented for the first time
The brand new device – shown for the first time at the upcoming Automechanika – offers everything a workshop can and should expect from a modern digital headlight adjustment tester. For example:
- A user-friendly 7″ color touch display for intuitive operation. This view can be rotated 180° using a button to operate the SEP from the lens side or from the “back”.
- An intelligent camera system with real-time visualization of the headlight image during adjustment, without any “time delay” during adjustment.
- So-called evaluation algorithms for the adjustment/checking of ECE, SAE headlights of all types such as xenon, halogen, LED and matrix LED.
- OEM functions for setting and calibrating adaptive lighting functions according to manufacturer specifications.
- Automatic detection and evaluation of headlight systems without having to define the light type beforehand.
- A unique positioning control system that guarantees precise centering in front of the light source.
- An integrated electronic spirit level for automatic compensation on uneven floors.
- The possibility of using the device on up to nine different test stations.
- Remote control of the device via smartphone, tablet or PC.
- Integration into an existing network via WLAN.
Equipped in this way, the Luminoscope® PRO SLA 40 enables its user to quickly and accurately capture and evaluate headlight images. Both individual measurements and a “total test” of all vehicle headlights – consisting of dipped, high and fog lights – can be archived or printed out as a clear PDF document and presented to the vehicle owner or insurance company for billing, for example. And, unlike other digital SEPs, the user can still assess the headlight image via a viewing window, as is usual with an analog SEP – a good practical aid if, for example, the bulb in a halogen headlight has been inserted incorrectly.
No reliable measurement results without robust mechanics
But it is not just in terms of digital technology that the Luminoscope® PRO SLA 40 differs from competitor products. Manufacturer LET Automotive has also done a great job with the hardware, as it did with the previous Luminoscope® PLA 35, which now has the “PRO” suffix and started out as a top model. Among other things, handling the SLA 40 is child's play:
- A weightless, wear-free height adjustment of the optical measuring unit through a counterweight in the device column.
- Ball bearing guide rollers for easy and precise up and down movement of the optical measuring unit.
- Ball or roller bearing smooth running wheels for easy maneuvering of the SEP.
- A solid and robust, rotating column for aligning the optical measuring unit to the vehicle's longitudinal axis.
- A green line laser (class 2!) for longitudinal alignment of the SEP to the vehicle.
With the well-known Luminoskop® PRO PLA 35, LET Automotive has been setting the benchmark for years, i.e. setting the bar high, when it comes to precisely digitally recording and evaluating the light from vehicle headlights. The Belgian company has made a name for itself in this area and continues to do so, including with numerous OEMs. Finally, LET devices are used in so-called end-of-line tests. That is, the inspection and adjustment of headlights at the end of vehicle production. The know-how accumulated there over decades is also incorporated in the Luminoskop models intended for workshops and testing organizations. Know-how that no other provider of headlight testing and adjustment devices for the aftermarket has.
If you would like to find out more about the technical expertise of LET and its digital SEPs, and/or need advice on setting up and (re-)calibrating a headlight testing and adjustment station, then contact rmi-tec, the general importer for LET in Germany and the DACH region. Speaking of rmi-tec: The company is also a developer and manufacturer of professional stations for headlight testing and for calibrating driver assistance systems.
