“Poseidon’s Journey to Hell” on TV: This is what the disaster film is about
The luxury liner “Poseidon” has embarked on its last cruise from New York to Greece. During a New Year's Eve celebration, the ship is caught in the pressure wave of an undersea earthquake. Most of the passengers are trapped in the dining room. Only one person, Reverend Frank Scott, recognizes the situation correctly: the ship is floating upside down in the sea. The only chance to escape the floating coffin is to climb up the ship's propeller shaft. But only a few brave souls join Scott on his odyssey through the ship's hull, which is shaken by explosions. – The film won two Oscars: for the special effects and for the best film song “The Morning After”. Shelley Winters also received the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in 1973. (Source: Tele 5, transmitted by FUNKE program guides)
