Our first thought when we heard this Hailey And Justin Bieber have given birth to their little boy Jack Blues: Yay! Adorable! Our second thought: Wow, that's a… totally normal name?

Out of Elon Musk And Grimes's son X Æ A-12 to YouTuber Trisha Paytass daughter Malibu Barbie, we've all become accustomed to celebrities giving their children completely bizarre names, so the news that the Biebers have named their first child Jack, a name that's as reliably popular today as it was 100 years ago, is simply unexpectedly delightful – and the sign of an emerging trend for their generation of new parents.

In the Bieber family, names starting with J are a family tradition—Justin's dad is named Jeremy, while his half-siblings are Jazmyn and Jaxon—but he and Hailey could have stayed true to that formula and still gone for something more unconventional: Jupiter Bieber? Jaguar Bieber? JellyRoll Bieber? But no, the couple stayed classic and recycled an old family name, since Jack also happens to be new grandpa Jeremy's middle name.

Of course, it helps that it's a name with some really cool references, from the many iconic Jacks of fiction (Bauer, Dawson, Sparrow) to the numerous real-life examples, all bursting with talent and charisma (Nicholson, Kerouac, White).

Sorry, Beliebers—there's only one girl Justin Bieber has his eye on! After going through many ups and downs in their relationship, the heartthrob finally tied the knot with Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin), and the two have been together ever since. The couple married in a New York City wedding in September 2018. […]

By choosing Blues as their middle name, the Biebers have also followed a new trend in baby names that UsWhile Gen X and older Millennials like to flaunt their individuality from the start (think Apple Martin, North West, Blue Ivy), younger Millennials and Gen Z are a little more reserved, often opting for a traditional name and then adding a little more quirkiness in between. This is why classic names like Oliver, Noah, Emma and Charlotte top baby name lists year after year, but online searches for less conventional middle names that pay tribute to music icons (Hendrix, Cobain… but no sign of Bieber yet) and nature (bear, forest, ocean) are fast increasing.

As major influencers for the generation just starting to have children, the Biebers are sure to accelerate the trend, and honestly, it's a trend that makes perfect sense. The child gets a safe, classic name that everyone can pronounce and spell, but still has the option to adopt their quirkier middle name when they're older. And if they're embarrassed? No problem—who uses their middle name anyway if they don't actively want to?

Now it's official: Jack Blues Bieber is only a few days old and already a huge trendsetter. With these two as parents, it's always been that way.
